In 2018, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson opened up in a candid interview about battling depression in the mid-1990s. Depression was not new to Johnson, as his mother attempted suicide when the wrestler-turned-actor was just 15-years-old.
Johnson’s mother walked into oncoming traffic attempting to kill herself before he pulled her back to the shoulder of the road. Johnson’s most significant brush with depression came after being released by the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders in 995.
Injuries cut his gridiron football career short. Not long after being released, Johnson’s then-girlfriend dumped him piling on the misery, which Johnson claims was the worst time of his life.
Johnson’s sponsorship deal with American sportswear company Under Armour is significant and puts him on a pedestal similar to Michael Jordan for having his own brand of clothing made by a sportswear giant.
